Broad Street Construction Project Update
UPDATED 11/16/2012
PennDOT officials report that the Broad Street Corridor Project is progressing nicely. The newly updated schedule has been released showing the progression of anticipated work until the project is completed in 2013.
West Hazleton will see curb and sidewalks completed from St. Francis to Madison Avenue, and from Winters Avenue to Diamond Avenue (right side only) this year. Hazleton will see curbs and sidewalks completed from Diamond Avenue along the shopping center, all the way to East Street near the hospital (right side only). Drainage work will continue throughout the winter months along the left side of the project (weather permitting).
The complicated work has begun at Poplar Street and Broad Street to eliminate the existing roadway bifurcation. Poplar Street, at the intersection of Broad Street, is expected to close to all traffic. Work on the terrace section is going well and it is starting to look like a completed project.
