Toohil Issues Statement on Passage of Senate Bill 906
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania State Senate passed Senate Bill 906 on concurrence Monday. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. John Yudichak (I-14), would halt the planned closures by the Department of Human Services of the White Haven and Polk state centers. The bill now goes to Gov. Tom Wolf, who is likely to veto the measure.

Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) is a strong supporter of Senate Bill 906 and issued the following statement regarding its Senate passage.

“I commend and thank Senator Yudichak for his leadership on this important piece of legislation. I worked hard to gain positive votes on the bill in the House. We have put together a coalition of bipartisan legislators from across the state to support this issue.

“Senate Bill 906 would ensure residents of the White Haven and Polk centers have a choice in where they want to live and the care they want to receive, including these wonderful facilities which are the only homes many have ever known.

“We implore the governor to sign this legislation into law. But if he follows through on the veto threat, I will join with my House colleagues who support the bill in working to secure the two-thirds majority required to override his wrongful decision.”
