HAZLETON – In an effort to prevent older residents from becoming the victims of fraud, Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne), Pennsylvania State Police Troop N and the Area Agency on Aging will co-host a Senior Scam Seminar on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at The Laurel Mall, 106 Laurel Mall Drive in Hazle Township. The free event will take place outside of Dunham Sports.
“The goal of our seminar is to make older residents in our area aware of the latest scams targeting the senior population; teach them how to avoid being victimized; and make sure they know who to call when they are concerned about their safety and well-being,” said Toohil.
Attendees will be able to hear a presentation at 9 a.m. by a special agent with the Office of Attorney General on the “Top 10 Scams in Pennsylvania” targeting seniors. Other presentations include:
• 10 a.m. – “Targeting the Elderly and Online Safety” with an analyst from the Pennsylvania Criminal Intelligence Center.
• 11 a.m. – “FBI Elder Fraud Initiative” with an FBI agent.
• 12:30 p.m. – “Reporting Scams” with a state trooper.
A free bag lunch will be provided by the Area Agency on Aging to seniors over the age of 60 who pre-register by Friday, Nov. 7.
For more information or to reserve a seat(s) for the free seminar, seniors are asked to contact Toohil’s district office at 570-453-1344.
