HAZLETON – In an effort to better safeguard the health of Luzerne County residents during the current COVID-19 crisis, Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) has requested a more detailed reporting of local cases from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Specifically, Toohil asked the department to provide maps, case and death numbers by municipality, patient information breakdowns, and other relevant data for posting on the Luzerne County State Health Department Office website.

“As you are well aware, Luzerne County has one of the highest rates of COVID-19 in the state,” wrote Toohil. “We are asking that the website for our local office includes the same technological upgrades and higher levels of information as those for Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties. Since our region has been deemed a virus hotspot and will soon be the location of a mass testing center, we need this vital data now more than ever.”

Toohil made her formal request this week in a letter sent to Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine.
