Mobile Veterans Center to Visit Hazleton, Toohil Says
7/9/2012
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) today announced the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Mobile Veterans Center (MVC), which provides services to veterans and their families, is scheduled to make a stop in Hazleton on Tuesday, July 10. The MVC will be located at the Laurel Mall, 106 Laurel Mall Road in Hazleton from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, weather permitting. It will remain in place until all veterans in attendance are served.
The United States Department of Veterans Affairs sponsors the Mobile Veterans Center program to reach veterans in underserved areas. Several MVCs operate in Pennsylvania and throughout the United States.
Trained personnel will be on hand to provide a variety of services including individual, marital, family and bereavement counseling; medical referrals; assistance in applying for VA benefits; employment guidance and referrals; alcohol and drug assessments; and information and referrals to community resources.
The Mobile Veterans Center features the following:
• A 38-foot mobile counseling center.
• Two private offices.
• Satellite communication and Internet service with the VA Medical Centers.
• Video conferencing and tele-health capabilities.
• Three flat-screen televisions for training and educational videos.
• Wheelchair lift and handicapped accessibility.
“Our veterans have made great sacrifices in their service to the nation,” said Toohil. “We owe it to them and to their families to reach out and make them aware of the many programs and services they are eligible to receive. This visit by the Mobile Veterans Center will go a long way toward achieving that goal.”
The Mobile Veterans Center’s visit schedule is subject to change.
