Toohil to Host Senior Expo Sept. 13
8/15/2012
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) announced today that she will host a Senior Citizens Expo on Thursday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hazleton Laurel Mall, 106 Laurel Mall Road in Hazleton.
“As the state representative for the 116th District, it is part of my job to keep local seniors informed about the many state programs designed to help them and improve their quality of life,” said Toohil. “The Senior Expo provides that valuable information and so much more.”
The Senior Expo will feature more than 70 exhibitors who will provide information on benefits and services available to older Pennsylvanians on a wide range of topics, including health care; insurance; nutrition and exercise; fire safety; financial planning; fraud protection; government; hunting and fishing; and personal safety. In addition, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Mobile Veterans Center will be stationed outside the mall to provide assistance to local vets and their families.
Blood work and glucose tests will be performed from 8 to 10 a.m. Participants are reminded to refrain from eating after midnight.
A basket raffle will take place at 12:30 p.m. Ticket holders must be present to win a prize.
“I encourage all seniors, their families and caregivers to attend this event in order to obtain information about the various programs and services in our area,” said Toohil. “This information can sometimes be difficult and time consuming to track down. The expo makes it easier and more convenient by bringing service providers and seniors together in one place.”
