Community Conservation Grants Awarded for Hazleton Area Projects, Says Toohil
10/15/2014
HARRISBURG – State funding has been approved for three community projects in the Hazleton area, Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) announced today. The grants were awarded through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program (CCPP) which is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).

“I am pleased the funding was approved for these projects which are designed to improve the quality of life in our local communities,” said Toohil.

The CCPP program provides financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts, and other nonprofits for planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenway projects.

The local projects that received funding include:

• Freeland Borough – $25,000 grant for the rehabilitation and further development of Freeland Public Park. The work will include installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing, ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.

• The City of Hazleton – $23,500 grant for the rehabilitation and further development of West Court Playground. The work will include installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing, rain garden and fencing, ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.

• The City of Hazleton – $50,000 grant for further development of East End Park. The work will include construction of a pavilion, storage shed, community garden and pedestrian pathway; installation of fencing, utilities, ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.

The local funding was among 219 grants totaling approximately $33 million that were awarded to communities and nonprofit organizations statewide.
