Toohil to Host Senior Citizens Expo Sept. 10 in Hazleton
8/11/2015
HAZLETON – Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) today announced that she will be hosting a Senior Citizens Expo as part of her continuing effort to inform older residents about the programs and services available to them in the Hazleton area.

The free event will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Laurel Mall, 106 Laurel Mall Road, in Hazleton.

“I am pleased to host this event once again and would like to sincerely thank all of the exhibitors who are taking part,” said Toohil. “Seniors, their family members and caregivers are encouraged to attend and learn about the many benefits offered to them by businesses and organizations in our area. They can also take advantage of a variety of health screenings that will be available, at no cost to them.”

Toohil’s Senior Citizens Expo will feature about 70 exhibitors from nonprofit agencies; local, state and federal governments; and area businesses that will provide information on benefits and services available to older Pennsylvanians on a wide range of topics, including health care; insurance; nutrition and exercise; fire safety; financial planning; fraud protection; government; and personal safety.

New this year will be the participation of Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis and the Prescription Drug Take-Back Program drop-off box. Seniors can bring their unused or expired prescription medications with them to be safely and properly disposed.

Representatives from the offices of state Sen. John Yudichak (D-14) and U.S. Congressman Lou Barletta (R-11) will also be participating.

In addition, a number of health screenings will be available, courtesy of area health care providers, including glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure and colon cancer. Please note that the blood work and glucose tests will be performed from 8-10 a.m. Participants are reminded to refrain from eating after midnight.

A basket raffle will take place at 12:30 p.m. in the mall’s center court. Seniors are reminded to bring a return address label for easier registration. Ticket holders must be present to win a prize.
